Which Geri-Gadgets® Kit Should I Choose?
Choosing an engagement tool begins with the person who will use it.
What interests them? Do they enjoy arranging objects, creating patterns or keeping their hands moving? Will you use the kit during family visits, individual sessions or group activities?
Geri-Gadgets® offers three SafeTouch™ silicone sensory engagement kits, each with different possibilities.
Flowers: For arranging and creating together
The Flowers kit includes tulips, leaves and a vase.
It offers a familiar starting point for someone who enjoys flowers, decorating or making arrangements. Invite the person to choose a flower, position a leaf or create a display.
You can work together without requiring conversation. If conversation develops, follow their interests rather than testing their recall.
Shapes: For exploring patterns and possibilities
The Shapes kit includes ten forms that can be handled, sorted and arranged.
Try grouping pieces by a shared feature, making a pattern or using the forms to create a design. You can also offer a few pieces and let the person decide what to do with them.
Shapes provides an open-ended starting point for people who enjoy experimenting with how things fit or look together.
Fidget Gidget®: For different ways to keep hands engaged
The Fidget Gidget® kit includes five manipulatives.
Introduce the pieces individually so the person has time to explore how each feels and moves. Notice which ones they return to and which they set aside.
There is no need to use every piece in a session.
Follow preference rather than diagnosis alone
Two people with the same diagnosis may prefer very different activities. Interest can also change from day to day.
Offer choices, observe the response and adjust. For communities serving people with varied preferences, having all three kits provides more options.
