Five Ways to Use Geri-Gadgets® During a Family Visit
You have made time to visit. Now you are sitting together, wondering what to say or do next.
A shared hands-on activity can give a visit a starting point without requiring someone to remember names, answer questions or maintain a conversation.
Here are five ways to introduce Geri-Gadgets® during a family visit.
1. Make a flower arrangement together
Place a few Flowers pieces within easy reach. Invite your family member to choose the first flower, then take turns adding pieces.
Let them decide where things belong. The arrangement does not need to match your idea of a finished display.
2. Create side by side
Use Shapes to make your own arrangement while your family member makes theirs.
You do not need to direct every step. Working alongside someone can provide companionship while leaving room for independence.
3. Take turns adding a piece
Start a shared design with one Shape. Invite the other person to add another, then take your turn.
See where the design goes. Keep the pace comfortable and stop if the person loses interest.
4. Explore one Fidget Gidget® piece at a time
Offer a piece and allow time to explore it. Demonstrate a movement if helpful, then give the person space to respond.
They may prefer holding it, moving it or setting it aside. Let that response guide your next step.
5. Invite another generation to join
A grandchild can help arrange Flowers or build a design with Shapes. Give everyone a role and encourage shared choices.
Keep the interaction adult and respectful, even when a younger family member participates.
Let the visit find its own rhythm
Ask before offering an activity. Make sure the pieces are appropriate for the individual and follow product guidance and any supervision needs.
Some visits will include conversation. Others may include a few minutes of shared activity and comfortable silence.
